Taran Alexander Fairwell, 32, of Duncan BC, died suddenly April 17 from a heart attack. Born in Victoria, BC as the first child to parents Ian and Phaedra Fairwell, later moving to Shawnigan Lake, where he spent most of his childhood and teenage years. Taran was an avid reader, particularly enjoying mythology and fantasy, and retained almost everything he read to the finest detail. His love for games, both video and board, began in his childhood years and followed him into adulthood, where he was part of many communities of fellow nerds who met regularly to play Magic the Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons. Taran was someone who cherished and nurtured his friendships so deeply they often felt more like family than friends.
Taran is survived by his Nana, Susan Faulkner, parents Ian and Phaedra, sister Joisan, and a very large and loving family, both blood and chosen. A celebration of Taran’s life will be held Sunday, May 10th in the Heritage Hall at the Cowichan Community Centre. Taran was nothing if not a comfortably-dressed man, so please wear your most comfortable attire. Service to begin at 2:00pm and will be brief, as Taran would have wanted, with an afternoon of playing games to follow.
In lieu of flowers, please learn a new game in his memory.
